There’s Magic in old English Cottages. Just looking at a photo of one brings that softness of time that whispers to you. If things aligned just right, you know you could walk through that doorway and into another time. Inside those stone walls, the coolness in summer, the warmth of a fireplace in winter. Animals that would wander by: deer, squirrel, maybe even a fisher or two in the creek that flows behind the trees. Of course birds of many colors, as many as you can imagine. These are the things that make us wish all magic could be real, that ghosts spoke to us, that time could be bent, that the path between us could be opened.

Happiness is a good book review! A book review was posted by  Reader Views Michel Violante on Goodreads. Mar 19, 2017 Reader Views rated it amazing. 

After giving some plot details as a lead in, Michael had this to say. “L. E. Hansen presents readers with a well-written, page-turning mystery which I found difficult to put down. The colorful setting and characters are as genuine, likeable, and entertaining as the narrator himself is. The plot is intriguing and filled with twists, which felt like a cat and mouse game between reader and author. I definitely enjoyed the plot, well-developed unique characters, and even the narrator’s voice. I don’t know if this is Hansen’s first mystery, but will look into it and follow her for more!

“The Fat Man” by L. E. Hansen is a ‘must read’ mystery, certain to add fans to this author’s followers list. I recommend it as a Five-Star read to all mystery lovers for sure!”

Love love love. Several other readers have put the novel on their “to be read” list.

Bridges & Photos & Poems

The bridge on the left is my bridge, the one we walked across to get from our place along the Mississippi river to the other side. Pettibone Park and the swim beach awaited there. In the park there was also a lagoon where we ice skated in winter.

The bridge on the right, the smaller bridge, was added a few years back so now each is oneway. I was shocked to see the added bridge the last time I was home. The bridges are not the same color and certainly do not match in style. What offense to my childhood!

The erasure poem posted here on March 7, 2014, is about the bridge and river and sand. It’s about this bridge and a child’s feet that walked there with the past and the future, singing with the ghosts of time.

Mental Floss magazine is promoting the book by Pieter van Dokkum. I think the photos by Mark Berkery shown here before, in Others, are better. They are certainly stunning and gorgeous. At least much more up close and personal. Maybe it’s a matter of personal preference. In any case, here’s The Joker, from

   Mark, Nature’s Place     I hope he has a book too, tho I don’t see one promoted on his blog pages. Maybe I’ve just missed it, mesmerized as I am by the photos themselves. (This is a katydid.)
